Webinar on FORESTS Textbook
Forest Sciences are taught based on several local, regional and national curricula and standards. For instance, US and Canada are well-known of their accreditation standards by forestry professions' associations. However, there is currently no international or global core standard for forestry or forest sciences at the university level and developing such a standard would be a complex undertaking. A pragmatic approach to achieving a common understanding of core learning outcomes would be to create an international textbook for forestry and forest sciences. Despite the availability of diverse open educational resources, no such material currently exists.
The aim of this IUFRO-based project is to develop an introductory-level textbook titled "FORESTS" for undergraduate BSc programs in colleges and universities. This textbook will be available in multiple formats (printed, mobile, online dynamic, and PDF) and will encompass foundational materials on ecology, technology, management, onomics, and policy related to forests. The online version will include various assignments and guidance for instructors.
You are invited to join the webinar on Thursday, September 11, from 15:00 to 15:30 UTC, where the concept will be presented in greater detail. This session will cover best practices, a tentative table of contents, action steps, timelines, financing, and the next steps in the project. The primary purpose of this initial webinar is to introduce the concept and encourage participation. No commitments are required at this stage.
